CAMPAIGN GAINING MOMENTUM
|
|
(Calgary) It
was about two months ago since we formally launched the www.2cards.ca
campaign to unite the right in Canada. The event was a completely
sold out lunch at Bona Roma here in Calgary on Macleod Trail.
It was refreshing
to hear our National President Craig B. Chandler, Paul Jackson (Calgary
Sun Associate Editor) and Eric Gregson (PGIB National Vice President
and Canadian Alliance Calgary South East President). These men have
vision as was evidenced in the two standing ovations that Mr. Chandler
received during his speech to the capacity crowd. The vision is
simply to unite the two parties based on policy and everything else
will fall into place (See http://www.2cards.ca for the full information).
The idea of
carrying two cards was met with attacks from some radical fringe
elements in the Alliance and Conservative parties. On the Alliance
side National Council member Michael Cooper threatened to terminate
memberships if any Alliance member was affiliated with the 2cards.ca.
Thankfully Mr. Coopers only had three allies on national Council
and wiser heads prevailed.
In fact, most
Alliance national Council members were very supportive of our program
and insured that that message was delivered. Quebec Alliance National
Council member David Anber stated the following in his detailed
eMail to the PGIB Executive Council: "There will always be
a synergy at work between Canadian businesses and the Canadian Alliance
and I want you to know that I strongly believe that there should
never be a reason for the PGIB and the Canadian Alliance to mistrust
one another".
On the Progressive
Conservative side we have seen eMails primarily from eastern Canada
calling us separatists and other things much too nasty to print
in this eMail newsletter. Michael Watkins an Edmonton director for
the Federal Progressive Conservatives wrote a lengthy eMail promising
convention floor warfare. The following is a segment of his eMail
to Mr. Chandler: "Your response was forwarded on to thousands
(yes, thousands) of conservatives, mostly Progressive Conservatives,
across the country, and now they too have had a taste for Craig
Chandler and the 'Progressive Group for Independent Business'. On
a positive note, your 2Cards initiative... has moved me to action.
I have decided to actively lobby delegates of the PC Party 2002
National General Meeting to support Resolution 9, which if adopted
will change the PC Party constitution to specifically forbid membership
of those holding memberships in other Canadian political parties.
And myself and many others are already actively lobbying to ensure
that support for article 2.2.3 remains strong -- and that the PC
Party remains committed to fielding 301 Progressive Conservative
candidates in the next federal election." Some fringe Tories
have promised a war and we are prepared to defeat them.
The Hits on
our website for this month are averaging 1,200 per day and growing!.
The downloads and the time each visitor spends on the site has been
very impressive.
Also, the media
attention to our agenda is growing. Our National President and 2cards.ca
Committee chairman Craig B. Chandler has been interviewed by various
news agencies nation wide and have had articles appear in the Edmonton
Journal, Calgary Herald, Calgary Sun and appeared this past Sunday
on CBC's Sunday Report which aired nationally. This week Craig was
also interviewed in a follow up story with the CBC and talked in
great length with Joe Paraskevas of the Calgary Herald and Paul
Jackson of the Calgary Sun. The media spotlight is expected to shine
on the 2cards.ca campaign much more over the next few days leading
up to and at the August 22-25 Edmonton PC Convention.
RESOLUTION
9 WOULD DESTROY HOPES OF A UNITED RIGHT
|
|
(Calgary) 2cards.ca
a project by the Progressive Group for Independent Business (PGIB)
has struck a serious nerve with some Federal Conservative members.
The bitterness is being seen in eMails sent to the PGIB National
and Edmonton eMail addresses.
"Although
the overall support from Alliance and Conservative members has been
extremely supportive, there still remains a few that are out of
touch with what Canadians want. Some Conservatives are desperately
trying to get their party's constitution changed to specifically
forbid dual memberships", stated 2cards.ca Committee Chairman
and PGIB National President, Craig B. Chandler.
The Progressive
Conservatives according to the PGIB have a radical left wing faction
that is trying to keep the Alliance and Conservatives apart with
a two fold strategy of disunity. The first prong of the attack on
the 2cards.ca initiative is Resolution 9 which if adopted will change
the PC Party constitution to specifically forbid membership of those
holding memberships in other Canadian political parties. The second
prong in the attack on unity comes in the form of continued support
for article 2.2.3 remains which ensures that the PC Party remains
committed to fielding 301 Progressive Conservative candidates in
the next federal election.
"Currently
neither the Alliance or PC parties constitution prohibits membership
in other federal parties. However, It seems that egos are getting
involved rather than a focus on policy. The entire www.2cards.ca
project is based on focusing on what unites us rather than divides
us. This entire process will get small minded people in both parties
upset with us, but, we need to do something drastic or the Liberals
will remain in power for an eternity. We have members of the PGIB
that are elected delegates to the Progressive Conservative convention
in Edmonton that carry two cards. We will fight with all our might
to defeat Resolution 9 and defeat support for Article 2.2.3"
The PGIB will
be actively campaigning on the floor of the federal Progressive
Conservative convention. The PGIB will also be hosting a Hospitality
suite for PC delegates, Alliance members and concerned Canadians.
"This process
will be painful, reconciliation after a divorce always is. However,
those who are sincere and can focus on polices and what unites us
will succeed in creating a real coalition to beat the Liberals.
We need to purge the federal Progressive Conservative party of the
Red Tory element before a merger of any sort is possible. Simply
put, the Alliance has more members than the PC party and if only
a few thousand Alliance members joined the PC Party, the party would
take a dramatic shift back to conservatism and the purge would be
complete", concluded Chandler.
To put it simply
the PGIB has one major objective on the convention floor and that
is to defeat Resolution 9. If we are successful in this objective
the PGIB can be proud of it's accomplishments at its convention.
How this will be done will be revealed to you after victory has
been achieved, as we do not want to reveal our strategies in this
eMail newsletter.
